Stop Feeling Overwhelmed in 30 Seconds or Less

STRESS…in whatever form (relationship, work, financial) is taking over your body. You are tingling from head to toe; you want to dissolve into the ground. You feel anxious and your heart is pounding. You start to think about all the what if’s and you really begin to get dizzy and possibly cry or scream.

As soon as you feel the stress tingles, BREATHE. Take the deepest breath you can and don’t stop doing that until you feel better. Don’t think about anything else, just focus on that breathing. This alone can change your entire reaction for the better. Breathe through your nose for a count of four, hold for four, and exhale for four. Repeat until the heat rising in your body is no longer.

Start to affirm yourself. Tell yourself out loud that you are amazing; that you can handle this and that nothing is too tough to conquer. You are a warrior! Think about everything you’ve accomplished in your life and all the “terrible” moments that you were able to triumph from. This moment is for your making. You are exactly where you are supposed to be at this moment.

You were chosen for this moment and you can work through it. Don’t go into victim mode, instead go into solution mode.

Think about the possible answers to the stress. If it’s work related, can you delegate or ask for support? If it’s financial, can you reduce your bills by taking a look at current expenses? If it’s relationship, is this the person you really want/need in your life and if it is, what can you do to start the healing process. Can you call a counselor; can you have a sit down discussion over dinner?

Just begin to think of solution thoughts over stressful thoughts and organically, your body will feel less tense.
