Making Space For What Serves YOU

How much of your time are you wasting doing things that don’t serve you? If you want to develop yourself, grow, heal, or even have some fun, you need to make some space to do that. You have to be intentional about boundaries. You may need to learn how to say no. You may even need to get real honest with yourself and stop creating a story line about how you think others will perceive you. I want you to question what your doing now and why you’re doing it. Get curious about it -Is it what you want to do, or something you think you ought to be doing?

How do you know if something doesn’t serve you? You have to tune into yourself and understand that your body is so amazing that it reacts when you know something serves you, and it has a unique response when something is inherently not aligned with who you are and what you want at that moment. This reaction is your intuition. Your intuition tells you what’s right for you and what’s not in a given moment. When your body says yes, you might experience this moment of calm and peace. You might start to think of the opportunities aligned to your values and your intentions. When your body says no, your heart might start to beat faster. You may start to feel clammy or even a bit nauseous. You feel like you don’t have a choice, and you become constricted. If you’re not sure what your body is telling you,  try a simple exercise, and tell yourself something that you know is true for you; something that you do that is in alignment and builds you up. For me, I might say, “If you spend time this morning in meditation and prayer, your will be more productive”. I know with 100% accuracy, that is not only true for me but it’s also aligned with my values and intentions. The moment I say that to myself, I feel calm and peace. If I tell myself, “You have too much on your plate right now, and it’s a waste of time this morning to spend time meditating and praying”. Automatically, I feel a drop in my energy, my stomach feels like I just went on a roller coaster and not in the exciting way.

I might feel like my day is so busy, I ought to get out of bed, grab some coffee and catch up on email. Why? I ought to nothing. Instead of I ought to or I should, what I do is focus on my intention and what serves me. It serves me to live a holistic healthy life. By living that life, I am more productive, more energetic, and more excited. By focusing on my intention, I will catch up on email and be productive, but it’s in the How; how I do it. I won’t neglect myself in order to be productive. Instead, I focus on myself in order to be productive. This is the method that serves me.

Sometimes, we worry too much about how others perceive us. The funny thing is when most people look back on their lives, they are not concerned with what other people thought, they are often regretful of what they could have accomplished. They are regretful because they focused on things that did not serve them. The best leaders in the world don’t operate or make decisions to appease others, they are innovative, curious, and think outside the box. They are not sheep, following a prescribed path, they look at what some might perceive as problems, and instead, they see opportunity. If you want to be successful, you have to move from a living in fear of how people will perceive you to saying no and making space to for you to do what’s best for you!

If you’re ready to make some shifts and start making space for what serves YOU….
