Our Body Has a Mind of its Own
Our bodies are a temple. If this is true, why do we fuel ourselves with garbage and why don't we listen to what our bodies are telling us?
Fuel is critical for strong minds and strong bodies.
I, personally, feel like I've spent my entire life working to get fit and now in my 40's post covid, post baby, I am in this hamster wheel doing the same things to get back to the best version of myself. The problem is that I'm doing things instead of being. Instead of eating "healthy" I need to be healthy. Health has to be the intention, and the practices that I do in my day are built around that. I can become healthy once I value it holistically and it becomes part of me instead of something I have to do.
In terms of listening to our bodies, it's not just about listening for physical cues, but our bodies give us these dynamic cues about what is meant for us versus what is not. It tells us when we are in danger and when we are safe.
The term gut feeling is defined by Cambridge Dictionary as, a strong belief about someone or something that cannot completely be explained and does not have to be decided by reasoning. Your gut feeling is your body telling you, intrinsically, that something is happening. I've had a gut feeling about a particular situation that has been happening for over a year. I kept avoiding it because it was easier to ignore than to grapple with the actual issue because of fear. Fear of the unknown is a huge challenge for many of us. It's completely understandable to be afraid of leaving a situation that is comfortable. For me, when I finally let go and trusted in what my gut was telling me, I immediately felt a weight lift and opportunity started to appear.
When we think about our bodies, it's easy to attribute it as an "extension" of who we are - a close, but separate entity. Our bodies are an equal part of who we are, it's our physical make up that also feeds into our mental, our emotional and our spiritual beings. All of these components are working in tandem to support our whole selves. I don't know about you, but I need to be reminded that each of the parts contribute to the whole, and all need to be nurtured and cared for in order for us to be whole.
My goal this week is to work on shifting my view of health and start doing more to see myself as a whole, and not separate entities. What is your health intention for the week?
